Fleur Oakes and Prof Roger Kneebone at the APPG for Craft, 16 October 2018
Prof Roger Kneebone and Fleur Oakes, needle lacemaker, at the inaugural APPG for Craft, 16 October 2018, explaining that craft is more than simply making.

All-Party Parliamentary Groups are formed by politicians on specific subjects to help them become informed and to receive advice. Members are MPs and peers, and other interested parties can be invited to join as Associate Members as appropriate.

The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Craft was set up in October 2018 to enhance the understanding and promotion of craft in the UK and to ensure that craft skills are supported and passed on to future generations.

The aim of the APPG for Craft is to encompass as many aspects of craft as possible – heritage craft, craft in schools, craft in further and higher education, passing on the skills of craft, training and apprentices, craft in communities including minority communities, contemporary craft, self-employed makers and micro craft businesses, safeguarding craft, etc, so that Parliamentarians are more aware of the success and the challenges, and for the crafts to work together with Parliamentary Members of the APPG for Craft to provide solutions to some of the problems.

The Secretariat is provided independently by Patricia Lovett MBE.
